Good Eikaiwa has developed its own unique learning protocol: the S.T.E.P. System©. This is a more comprehensive system than TOEIC/TEFL and others as it promotes the development of a broader set of (9) key English skills: speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, vocab, expressiveness and culture. Our courses and other learning materials are designed to improve all of these skills, thereby supporting our users in developing a well-rounded command of the English language. In addition we are developing a testing system that will track and measure proficiency in each of the key skill areas.
All courses as well as some other learning materials will indicate the English language skills from the S.T.E.P. System© that will be addressed. This allows users to choose courses and activities that are most aligned to their learning goals. Skills ID will be represented by the following icons:

Difficulty rating will be indicated for courses as well as some other learning materials. Good Eikaiwa uses the following three difficulty ratings:

This indicates that content is suitable for a beginner English learner.

This content is suitable for an intermediate English learner with a basic level of competency.

This content is suitable for an experienced English learner with higher level of fluency.
G.E.M.s (Good Eikaiwa Money) are awarded to a user for accomplishing various tasks, such as signing up, logging in each day, sending a message, completing a course, etc. You can also use G.E.M.s to purchase special products or qualify for special discounts! You can check the G.E.M. Leaderboard and other user achievements on the Stats page. If you put in some effort, you too could see your own name among the top achievers!

Collect as many G.E.M.s as you can and earn rewards! Learn to earn.
Goodies can earn ranks by collecting more and more G.E.M.s! Some ranks can only be achieved by collecting the required number of G.E.M.s along with completing certain required tasks. As you achieve each new rank, you will given the requirements to achieve the next rank.

The highest of the Bronze ranks, this will take a little more time and effort to achieve.

The first of the Silver ranks. This will set you apart from the beginner user.

You have finally arrived at the coveted Gold Rank!

Gold 2 means you are not just a Gold ranked member, but you continue to work hard and achieve.

You are almost at the top of the mountain. You are now a user that others will look up to.
