S.T.E.P. System©

Good Eikaiwa has developed its own unique learning protocol: the S.T.E.P. System©. This is a more comprehensive system than TOEIC/TEFL and others as it promotes the development of a broader set of (9) key English skills: speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, vocab, expressiveness and culture. Our courses and other learning materials are designed to improve all of these skills, thereby supporting our users in developing a well-rounded command of the English language. In addition we are developing a testing system that will track and measure proficiency in each of the key skill areas. 

Skills ID

All courses as well as some other learning materials will indicate the English language skills from the S.T.E.P. System© that will be addressed. This allows users to choose courses and activities that are most aligned to their learning goals. Skills ID will be represented by the following icons:

Speaking

The content is designed to improve English speaking fluency.

Listening

The content is designed to improve English listening skills.

Reading

The content is designed to improve English reading ability.

Writing

The content is designed to improve English writing skills.

Grammar

The content is designed to enhance understanding of English grammar principles.

Pronunciation

The content is designed to improve English pronunciation.

Vocab

The content is designed to increase English vocabulary.

Expressiveness

The content is designed to broaden one’s ability to express themselves in English.

Culture

The content is designed to enhance one’s knowledge of mainstream western culture and its influence on language.

Content Warnings

Content warnings are displayed to indicate content that is either restricted or locked. Please pay careful attention to these as it may be content you cannot or choose not to consume. 

Restricted content

This indicate that the content you are about to access is suitable for mature audiences.

Locked content

This indicates either you are not eligible to access this content or it has not been released.

Difficulty Rating

Difficulty rating will be indicated for courses as well as some other learning materials. Good Eikaiwa uses the following three difficulty ratings: 

Easy

This indicates that content is suitable for a beginner English learner.

Medium

This content is suitable for an intermediate English learner with a basic level of competency.

Hard

This content is suitable for an experienced English learner with higher level of fluency.

G.E.M.s

G.E.M.s (Good Eikaiwa Money) are awarded to a user for accomplishing various tasks, such as signing up, logging in each day, sending a message, completing a course, etc. You can also use G.E.M.s to purchase special products or qualify for special discounts! You can check the G.E.M. Leaderboard and other user achievements on the Stats page. If you put in some effort, you too could see your own name among the top achievers!

G.E.M.s

Collect as many G.E.M.s as you can and earn rewards! Learn to earn.

Ranks

Goodies can earn ranks by collecting more and more G.E.M.s! Some ranks can only be achieved by collecting the required number of G.E.M.s along with completing certain required tasks. As you achieve each new rank, you will given the requirements to achieve the next rank. 

Bronze 1

The default rank for all new Goodies.

Bronze 2

The first real achievement. How quickly you can reach this rank and graduate the title of a noob?

Bronze 3

The highest of the Bronze ranks, this will take a little more time and effort to achieve.

Silver 1

The first of the Silver ranks. This will set you apart from the beginner user.

Silver 2

Silver 2 is quite a challenge. Keep at it and you will get there before you know it.

Silver 3

You are the senior Silver ranked member now.

Gold 1

You have finally arrived at the coveted Gold Rank!

Gold 2

Gold 2 means you are not just a Gold ranked member, but you continue to work hard and achieve.

Gold 3

You are almost at the top of the mountain. You are now a user that others will look up to.

Welcome to Good Eikaiwa! By using our website and services, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By subscribing to our service, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use our website.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use our website and services.

3. Subscription and Payments

• Subscription Plans: We offer various subscription plans that provide access to all standard video courses, games, activities, social media features and any other feature we may add to the standard subscription plan in the future. No one feature is guaranteed indefinitely and features may be subject to change or removal without notice. 
• Video Chat Add-On: Access to native Chat Coaches is available as an additional paid service.
• Monthly Newsletter: Subscribers will automatically receive our newsletter, “Good News,” which includes updates and offers.
• Shop: Our online shop sells downloadable e-textbooks, merchandise, and other products. All purchases are non-refundable, unless due to manufacturing or other fault. 

4. Content and Use

• Video Courses: Content is for personal use only. Reproduction or distribution is prohibited.
• Games and Activities: Use our games and activities as intended. Any misuse may lead to account suspension.
• Social Media Functionality: Interact respectfully with other users. Harassment or abusive behavior will not be tolerated and may lead to account suspension. 
• Paid Video Chats: Sessions with Chat Coaches must be scheduled in advance and are subject to availability.

5. User Accounts

• Account Creation: You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
• Account Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account information and for all activities that occur under your account.

6. Content Ownership

All content on the website, including but not limited to text, images, and videos, is owned by Good Eikaiwa or its licensors. You may not use any content without our prior written consent.

7. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to our services at any time for violating these Terms and Conditions.

8. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

9. Limitation of Liability

Good Eikaiwa is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of our services.

10. Governing Law
